Parks Fees and Charge Policy

The Cabarrus County Parks Commission is now accepting applications for the Matching Incentive Grant Projects. The purpose of the Incentive Grant Program is to encourage non-profit community groups to provide more adequate recreation facilities in their local communities. Examples of groups that can apply for funds are: P.T.O’s, Civic Clubs, Athletic or Recreation Associations and Boosters Clubs.

All improvements must be located on publicly owned property owned by Cabarrus County, the boards of education, a municipality within the County, or property leased to the County for a minimum of fifteen years. Projects on school property must be consistent with the respective school system’s long range plans. Project on park property must be consistent with the Parks Department’s long range plans. The property the project is located on must remain unlocked and open to the public.

The Grant provides up to 50% of the actual project cost based on the amount approved by the Commission. Grant applications may be obtained from the Cabarrus County Parks Department website at www.cabarruscounty.us/parks or at the Cabarrus County Parks Department, 2323 Concord Lake Road, Concord or by calling 704-920-3357. The Grant applications will be accepted through August 18, 2010. Grants must be received in the Cabarrus County Parks Department Office by 5:00pm on August 18, 2010. Grants will be reviewed by the Parks Commission at the meeting scheduled for August 19, 2010. The Park Commission will prioritize the Grant Requests and recommend to the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners for consideration. For more information please call our office at 704-920-3357.

Matching Incentive Grant Application

Cabarrus County Parks department is planning a new community park for the southeast region of the county. The 190–acre park is on a beautiful site filled with trees and features a large pond, a creek, and other unique natural amenities. Located off Highway 601 near Wallace Road in Midland, the park is being planned as a destination for the entire region. Learn more.

The Carolina Thread Trail is planning to wind its way through Cabarrus County as part of a regional trail network that will link 15 counties and more than two million people in North and South Carolina. The Carolina Thread Trail is proposed to comprise 7,300 square miles and link more than 40 destinations in the counties of Anson, Cabarrus, Catawba, Cherokee, Chester, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lancaster, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly, Union and York. The Carolina Thread Trail will preserve our natural areas, encourage healthy lifestyles and promote tourism while providing a place for exploration of nature, culture, science and history.
