Matching Incentive Grants

The Matching Incentive Grant Program is an important Active Living and Parks initiative. It's purpose is to encourage non-profit groups to enhance their local communities by:

  • improving existing or developing new park and recreation facilities
  • acquiring land for new facilities
  • providing more adequate facilities

Examples of groups eligible to apply for the matching funds include:

  • PTO’s
  • Civic Clubs
  • Boosters Clubs
  • Athletic or Recreation Associations

Grant applications are priority rated based on the type of project applied for. All improvements must be completed on property owned  by:

  • Cabarrus County
  • the boards of education
  • a municipality within the County
  • property leased to the County for a minimum of 15 years

Projects on school property must agree with the school system’s long range plans. Projects on park property must agree with Active Living and Parks long range plans. The property the project is located on must remain unlocked and open to the public.

The Active Living and Parks Commission reviews grants. Completed applications must be submitted to the department between the first Monday in August through the second Friday in September. Eligible applicants must be present at the September (the third Thursday) Active Living & Parks Commission meeting to present their projects to the Commission. Each applicant will be allotted 5 minutes for presentation purposes.

The annual budget adopted by the Board of Commissioners determines available funds.
