Evidence Control

The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office stores evidence seized by deputies during the course of criminal investigations as well as items classified for safekeeping such as found or abandoned property and weapons seized pursuant to a domestic violence protective orders.

Evidence seized by the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office or otherwise in their custody will not be released, destroyed or disposed of without a court order. Even if a defendant is found not guilty or the charges are dismissed, it is the court’s responsibility to order a disposition of the evidence. There are few exceptions, such as recovered stolen property stored for a crime victim.

Personal property taken from a person incarcerated in the Cabarrus County Detention Center is not stored in the evidence room – that property is the responsibility of the detention center.

The hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., excluding holidays. Call in advance to set up a time to retrieve property.
