Annual gathering set for Nov.11; Join in Operation Green Light
CONCORD, N.C. – Each November, Cabarrus County comes together to honor the service and sacrifice of veterans. Once again, the County’s Veterans Services Department, along with the City of Concord and the Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County, is hosting the annual veterans appreciation event on Monday, November 11 at 11 a.m. at the Boys & Girls Club facility (247 Spring St. NW).
Retired United States Army veteran Angel L. Lugo will deliver the keynote speech. Cabarrus County Veterans Services Director and United States Marine Corps veteran Tony Miller will give opening remarks and acknowledge military branches and war service.
All Cabarrus veterans are invited to the celebration.
“This is a chance for veterans to proudly showcase their service while we express our sincere gratitude,” Miller says. “We invite everyone to join us."
Refreshments will be provided by Oak Grove Baptist Church Veterans Ministry.
Shining a light of recognition
Again this year, Cabarrus County will honor veterans through the display of green lights at several buildings. Operation Green Light is an initiative of the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners, the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers.
County residents are asked to join in and shine their own green light in recognition of the service of our veterans and their families through November 11. The act shows veterans that they are seen, appreciated and supported.
During the Cabarrus County Commissioners October Regular Meeting, the board recognized the contributions and sacrifices of the local men and women who served in the armed forces through a proclamation read by Tony Miller.
