Due to the impact of Tropical Storm Helene on North Carolina, Cabarrus County has received an Individual Assistance Declaration from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Impacted residents could be eligible for assistance, including Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP), if it’s determined that a significant number of county residents experienced losses due to the storm.
D-SNAP benefits, also known as disaster food stamps, help pay for food through an EBT card. Short-term D-SNAP benefits are available for those who do not normally qualify for regular Food and Nutrition Services benefits.
Emergency officials say that Cabarrus received minimal storm damage, but an example of impact could be a loss of food due to a power outage.
Cabarrus residents can apply for FEMA disaster assistance and find other recovery resources at disasterassistance.gov.
Residents can learn more about Food and Nutrition Services, Medicaid, Family Support Services and Child Support Services by visiting cabarruscounty.us or calling 704-920-1400. Visit epass.nc.gov to apply for benefits and services.
