Due to the impact of Tropical Storm Helene, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is opening a disaster survivor assistance center in Cabarrus.

The center will be located at the County’s Milestone Building (4855 Milestone Ave, Kannapolis) in Conference Room A on the first floor.

Assistance will be available from January 13 through January 17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Disaster Survivor Assistance, Hazard Mitigation flood insurance specialists and Small Business Administration (SBA) staff members will be present to answer case inquiries, provide updates, register new recipients, respond to questions about rebuilding/restoring disaster-damaged facilities and offer guidance on flood insurance.

Cabarrus County received an Individual Assistance Declaration from FEMA in October 2024 following the storm.

Residents have until February 6 to apply for relief.

FEMA assistance could help financially with serious needs, displacement, temporary lodging, basic home repair costs, personal property loss or other disaster-caused needs.

Homeowners and renters affected by the disaster can apply several ways:

  • Online at DisasterAssistance.gov
  • Via the FEMA App (fema.gov/about/news-multimedia/mobile-products)
  • Calling 800-621-3362
